Hey Incoming Students!
Soon you will find yourselves in Germany, probably with a head full of questions about life in Karlsruhe and the University, and with no one to turn to. Don’t worry, we got you covered! We (ESN Karlsruhe) are Karlsruhe’s section of the Erasmus Student Network, and that means we are a voluntary student organization basically dedicated to making your life easier and more fun during your stay in Germany!
During our amazing orientation week (or as we call it: O-Phase) in September we will show you around town and try to answer all of your questions! More importantly, we will of course party together and you will get the chance to meet all the other international students, who will probably be your best friends during your stay! If you have not signed up for the O-Phase yet, you should totally do that here.
However, there is also a life after the O-Phase, and while all your international friends are surely awesome, you might find yourself wondering: Where are all the Germans in this country, and how do I get to know them?
How does it work?
The idea is actually quite simple: You sign up with some information about yourself and we will try to match you with a local student from Karlsruhe, who then becomes your “buddy” for the semester. With them, you can meet for coffee and practice your German, go party together, have someone to turn to when the deutsche Hochschulbürokratie once again doesn’t make sense to you… it’s up to you what you want to do!
Hint: This is a Buddy-Program for EXCHANGE students. If you are a regular international full degree student you might consider the Buddy-Program from KIT.
During the O-Phase in September, there will also be a kick-off event, where you can meet and get to know your buddy!
For everyone already registered: Make sure that to match yourself with all those locals out there until then, to get your dream-buddy on https://papaya.iter-idea.com. If you have matched yourself, then you AND YOUR BUDDY can come to our kick off event on the 22nd of March (place to be announced).
Here a GIF with the explanation of how to register in the Buddy Program:
